"Self-Success"
By June Lavoie
The indispensable first step to getting things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want. I suppose this is where it all started for me. Self-Success to me is about doing what I enjoy and making it worth while.
I had always worked for other people or for my parents and I felt that something was missing. When I married my husband, Brian, he helped me to realize that we could run our own restaurant. I always pushed those feelings down, but I did want to have my own restaurant. I do believe that it was always a dream of Brian's as well. So, with this in mind, we set some goals for ourselves. Keep in mind that the most important thing about goals is having one.
Brain and I were offered a great deal when we purchased Roy & Venita's Restaurant. At first it was about power and destiny and for the money. I soon realized that power is overrated and the money is hard to come by.
"I am not bound to win; I am bound to the light I have" Abraham Lincoln. I remembered this quote one day when I sat myself down and asked the question, what the hell am I doing? I just felt as if things around me were tumbling to the ground, my business, marriage, and family. I needed a new direction and I needed it fast.
In the power to change yourself is the power to change the world around you. Bear in mind, that my own resolution to succeed in myself is more important than any other. At this time in my life I decided to stand by my husband with his endeavors. I have decided to dedicate my business life hiring people that others may not give a chance. I now enjoy my work at Roy & Venita's because I have given it a purpose. It is only as we develop others that we permanently succeed. I really enjoy helping good people get out of bad situations of life choices. I enjoy seeing good in people when others are reluctant to. Now, just so you know, that is not who I used to be. I used to fear people for lots of reasons. I've learned to trust in people and in myself. Success is never final and failure never fatal." George F. Tilt
In closing I would just like to say that I enjoy my part of Roy & Venita's because of how I am able to help others. I get great joy from this. This is how I achieve "self-success." Teach this triple truth to all: A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service commitment in all things, with renew humanity.
